I call these sorts of rides relaxed riding. They are not about training. They are not about speed and how fast I can complete the ride. Indeed they are quite the opposite. But they maybe just a little bit about the distance!
For me, these rides are mostly about being present in the moment. They are about taking note of my surroundings and stopping to explore things of interest. They are very much all about the journey.
This ride follows two legs on the Cycling UK Cathedrals Cycle Route Challenge. The Challenge covers nearly 2,000 miles across England’s landscape between 42 cathedrals. These two legs were around 68 miles.
Chelmsford Cathedral to St Alban’s Cathedral
This longer 48-mile takes riders from Chelmsford Cathedral to St Albans Cathedral, where you can find the longest nave of any cathedral in England. Take in the views along the way and stop for tea and cake at the cathedral.
St Albans Cathedral to St Paul’s Cathedral
This easy-paced 23-mile takes riders between the stunning cathedral in St Albans and the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of England’s capital city. The current building has stood for more than 300 years and is a masterpiece of architect Sir Christopher Wren, but the site’s history as a cathedral dates back to AD604. .
