Slowing Down, or Simply Cycling Differently?

Looking back over nearly eighteen years of ride data, it would be easy to conclude that I’ve become slower. My average speed today is certainly lower than when I started using a Garmin and saved the ride data in 2008. But the numbers only tell part of the story. Back then, I was definitely faster … Continue reading Slowing Down, or Simply Cycling Differently?

London to Southend Bike Ride 2026 – Nineteen Years On

Today’s ride was the London to Southend Bike Ride.  An event that holds a special place for me as it was the ride that inspired me to start So Tyred nineteen years ago. Instead, I opted for a shorter loop taking in Leigh-on-Sea and Barling. The Southend Triathlon was also taking place that morning, with the route passing right … Continue reading A Summer Solstice Ride to Leigh and Barling

The weather last week had been pretty miserable. Still, with a more promising forecast today, I decided it was time for a longer ride. The plan was to head over to the Owl Hill Tea Room in Terling. My bike had recently developed an annoying creak from the bottom bracket area. The local bike shop … Continue reading Ride out to Owl Hill team rooms

Turning the Pedals Again: A Fresh Start to the Season

Today was only my third ride of the year. Between relentless bad weather, a bout of illness, and a fair share of lost motivation, the miles have been slow to come. It was a beautiful early spring day.  Bright sunshine at last after what feels like weeks of constant rain. The temperature sat at a … Continue reading Turning the Pedals Again: A Fresh Start to the Season
