It’s not all about personal bests and Strava

Barlinghall Creek
Barlinghall Creek

It was a glorious sunny Spring afternoon and faced with a choice of cutting the grass or popping out on the bike for a Saturday joyride, the bike won – was there ever any doubt?  But today was not a day for lycra.  It was a day for getting out on my hybrid and exploring.  Forget the average speed, forget the segments, the personal best was just being out on my bike.

I went to somewhere I had been meaning to explore for a while.  On a map, it was shown as Barling Airstrip and I had often wondered what was actually there so decided to stop off as part of my Saturday joyride.

Well, I never did find the airstrip but came across two areas that I had never seen before.  The first was Chalk Marsh and then further down the track I came across Barlinghall Creek, a tributary of the River Roach.  It was a beautiful little creek, lazing in the sun.  It was somewhere I never knew existed.  Never fear though, I will be going back another day for a walk along the raised river bank and look forward to seeing what else there is to be discovered.

And to think, I would never have found any of this had I been out in best MAMIL gear worrying out time, distance and speed!

But here is the data anyway: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/750027407
